A call number is a unique code displayed on each book , videocassette, or other item in the library, and in the bibliographic record which represents the item in the library catalog. The call number is used to identify the work and to indicate its location on the shelf. The Chicago State University Library uses three different kinds of call numbers for shelving the materials as follows:
