Eligibility
All currently affiliated CSU faculty, staff and students
are eligible for CSU Interlibrary Loan services. We follow the guidelines
by ALA, IL State Library, US Copyright Law and US Commission, and federal
and state laws governing confidentiality of records.
Cost
No charge for placing a request for interlibrary loan services. No charge
for faculty to borrow from other libraries. However, depending on the
lending library policies, if charges do occur, students are responsible
for their own cost. Every borrower is asked to fill out the MAXIMUM
COST field on the Request Form. If the field is left blank, your request
will not be processed. The Interlibrary Loan staff will try by all means
to borrow with no charge.
Turnaround Time
Typically, interlibrary loan requests take 10—15 days. Materials
that are difficult to locate or are borrowed from non-Illinois libraries
will probably take longer to locate or receive. The time depends on
the location of the lending library, the availability of the item, and
the U.S. mail service. We strive to find the quickest method to fill
your request. You will be notified by telephone or by email once the
requested item becomes available.
Usually two to four weeks. Items are subject to the loan and renewal
policies of the lending institutions. Materials must be returned by
the due date listed on the wrapper/band unless renewal is authorized.
Materials obtained through interlibrary loan MUST be returned to CSU
Library, NOT the lending library. The interlibrary loan wrapper/band
or any other enclosed cards/attachments may not be removed except by
library staff. Failure to follow the above instruction may result in
the loss of interlibrary loan privileges.
User Responsibilities
Any patron requesting interlibrary loan service must hold a valid CSU
ID. Those with significantly overdue materials and/or accrued fines
of $5.00 or more are suspended until these problems are resolved. It
is the patron’s responsibility to be aware of loan period, renewals,
and item care. Failure to return interlibrary loan items on time
will result in fines and/or suspension of interlibrary loan privileges.
If an item is lost or damaged, the patron is responsible for all overdue
fines, including the cost of the item, any processing fee charged by
the lending library, plus a $5.00 processing charged by CSU Library.
When materials are lost or returned late, the borrowing privileges of
both the patron and CSU Library are jeopardized.
Request through I-Share/CARLI
The I-Share Catalog is offered through CARLI, a consortium of 71 academic
libraries in the state of Illinois. To place an interlibrary loan request,
follow the steps below:
