The Reference Department
The primary function of the Reference and Instructional Services department is to assist students, faculty, and staff in the utilization of the CSU library including both formal and informal instruction on both electronic and non-electronic resources.
Within this mandate, the department:
- Provides answers to specific information requests or specific facts
- Helps students gather research materials for course assignment or for other needs
- Provides access to special collections of material both internally and externally
- Instructs and teaches students how to conduct research in a university library
- Complements classroom instruction by providing access to materials and resources beyond that provided in the traditional classroom setting
- Provides specialized database searching for advanced students and faculty to support advanced research
- Provides information literacy instruction
- Displays policies and procedures governing reference services
