The Serials Unit is responsible for functions related to the procurement of serials in numerous formats and making them available to library clientele. The procedures for periodicals/serials include: ordering, receiving, check-in, claiming of un-received issues, binding, and maintaining holdings records in the online public access catalog (OPAC). For the past year, with the collaborative efforts of the subject bibliographers, the Serials Unit cancelled print titles that were duplicated online. The Serials Unit currently subscribes and provides access to approximately 1,005 periodical titles. These titles support academic research in various subject areas. New periodical issues are checked-in and shelved in the reading room on the second floor of the library on the day of receipt.
