Music
and Performance Arts
The newly created Music and Performing Arts area located in the Center
section of the library Floor 3 supports CSU faculty, students and
staff in their pursuit of information and resources to enhance their
knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Music, Theater and Dance.
While the primary clientele for the Music and Performing Arts area
include the separate Music, Theater, and Dance departments, the entire
University community is served by the collection of books, videos,
compact discs and music scores.
The general call number area for music materials is M—ML and
MT, and the Music/Performing Arts area houses all music print resources
irregardless of their date of publication. (None are located in ROVER).
The Music Reference collection is also housed here (Ref ML or MT).
Electronic journal/article database resources include two music databases:
Grove Music Online and
International Index to Music Periodicals (IIMP) .
The library also subscribes to three separate streaming database
listening service,
Naxos Music Library which provides audio streaming (no downloading is possible) to over
6000 classical recordings. offers 1,900 jazz CD’s via audio
streaming, and the
African-American Song database contains over 16,000 individual song tracks via audio streaming.
All databases are available 24/7 on campus or off through sign-in
with your University email address and password.
The Theater and Dance collections are housed in their respective
call number areas in the general circulating collections on Floors
4 (LC A-K) and 3 (LC N-Z). Dance is generally located in LC class
GV 1590+ and theater resources are found in PN—PZ. Theater
resources include plays, books on drama and theatrical productions,
and practical guides to acting and technical aspects of theater as
well as directing and producing. The dance collection consists of
books on dancing and dancers in various genres, and a select group
of videotapes on dance, which are located in ROVER, and can be requested
at the Circulation Desk (Floor 1). All items are listed in I-Share,
CSU’s catalog.
The Music and Performing Arts Librarian is available for assistance
