The Black Studies Center supports research, teaching, and learning in Black Studies and other disciplines. This resource includes the Schomburg Studies on the Black Experience, a series of interdisciplinary essays and topical studies designed to help define the development of Black Studies, International Index to Black Periodicals (IIBP), two historical black newspapers (Chicago Defender and the Daily Defender), and the Black Literature Index which includes over 70,000 bibliographic citations for fiction, poetry and literary reviews published in 110 black periodicals and newspapers between 1827-1940.

The CSU library now has access to the SAGE Deep Backfile Package of 303 SAGE Journals. This database provides the full text content of these journals from issue 1, volume 1, through the last issue of 1998. Here is a list of the journals.

JSTOR is a high-quality, interdisciplinary archive of scholarship striving to preserve over one thousand academic journals in both digital and print formats. Its goal is to expand access to scholarly works and other materials needed for research and teaching globally.

Chicago State University has access to two major JSTOR collections, Arts and Sciences 1 and Arts and Sciences IV.

Arts and Sciences 1 (119 titles) includes core journals in economics, history, political science, and sociology, as well as in other key fields in the humanities, social sciences, ecology, mathematics, and statistics. Arts and Sciences IV (112 titles) has a strong focus on the professions of business, education, and law, and also includes titles in psychology, public policy and administration.

Full text access to the Chronicle of Higher Education updated daily with the latest news in academe. Includes all the text from the current print edition, a searchable archive of back issues going back to September 1989, commentary and essays from the weekly magazine, The Chronicle Review, as well as data from the annual Almanac. This was requested by the Reference Unit of the Department of Public Services (LISPS) to provide enhanced patron access to up-to-date news. Both a feed and a news page are available.
